NAASPC joined Onyx Gun Club @ Wedgewood Middle School to have a conversation about lethal means safety, how to react if they discover a gun & suicide prevention.
The suicide rate among Black youth 10 - 19 has increased 54% since 2018. The suicide rate among Black adolescents is increasing at a faster pace compared to other racial and ethnic groups.
The suicide rates among black young adults 15 - 24 has increased by 37%, the highest rise of any category, from 2018 to 2020.
Over the years, we have accomplished many important milestones in our mission to support mental health, including expanding our services and increasing accessibility to mental health resources.
In 2020, there were 6,146 Veteran suicides, which averages to 16.8 Veterans dying by suicide every day. Suicide was the second leading cause of death among veterans under age 45.8. Veterans have an adjusted suicide rate that is 57.3% greater than the non-veteran U.S
